The under 18 team of Ave Maria Convent, Negombo bagged the Championship at the Netball Tournament organized by the Zonal Education office, Negombbo on 8th May 2018. Under 20 and 16 teams became the 2nd runners up and the players exposed their talents well in the netball court to the spectators present.
Roshell Nathasha Askey brings glory not only to the school but also to the whole Island. Roshel Nathasha Askey represented Sri- Lanka at World Schools’ Championship held in Durres-Albania from 20th- 29TH April. Roshel in this World Championship obtained the 6th position bringing glory not only to the School but also for the whole Island.
Grade 9 upwards students were exposed to a session to upgrade their spirituality , which is most needed in the society today on 25th April 2018 in the School Auditorium. It was on the theme “AMMA” and Rev. Fr. Dulip Kamal, the Liturgy Director of Katana Deanery, made the students understand the relationship of the mother and the daughter relating to the spiritual upliftment of the students
Ave Maria Students exposed their talents at the G.C.E.(O/L) Examination in 2017 making the School Flag flutter high up in the air. #4 students obtained 9As and 32 students obtained 8As and 1B. Ave Maria Family wishes them good luck for their future and the Patron Mother Mary’s intervene for their future success.
The Prefects’ Investiture was held on 12th January 2018. It commenced with Holy Mass conducted by praising ,thanking and requesting blessings of God for the newly appointed prefects. Ninety prefects were inducted from the Upper School and forty two from the Primary. Rebecca Fernando was the Head Prefect of the Upper School and Nishi Munasinghe was the Head Prefect of the Primary Section. The Sector Cordinator, Rev, Sr. Madonna Wimaladasa, The Community Leader Rev. Sr. John Storey, The Principal Rev. Sr. Shermila Jayawardena, The vice Principal Rev. Sr Jayamani Rodrigo, the teachers and the members of the Welfare Board, Past Pupils’ Association and the Past Teachers’ Association were in attendance.
Commencing the year 2018 the members of the Staff participated in an “ Attended Outbound Training Programme on 4th January. It was facilitated by the “Unlock Team” and the course was in keeping with International Standards of Team Building and Leadership[ Development. The teachers got motivated for a change in their lives which will be definitely instrumental in their teaching career.
Grade 1 students were welcomed to the School on 15th January 2018 by the Principal Rev. Sr Shermila Jayawardena, Vice Principal Rev Sr. Jayamani Rodrigo , the Deputy Principals and some teachers of the Primary Section and some Primary students. The new students were welcomed in song and dance by Primary student. After they were taken to the classes the Principal addressed the parents informing about some rules and regulations of the School.
A ceremony was organized to b farewell to Rev. Sr. Sudarika Fernando the Vice Principal Ms Sharma Weerasinghe and Ms Margie Fernando. On the 8th December at the School Auditorium. Rev. Fr. Thilakasiri Fernando former Spiritual Director, Loyola College was the Chief celebrant at Holy Mass and he appreciated the work rendered by the vice principal Rev. Sr Suarika Fernando for 5 years, Ms Sharma Weerasinghe the Music Teacher for nine years and Ms Margie Fernando for 9 years and Ms Margie Fernando for two years after her early retirement from School years ago..
The Annual Carol Service for the year 2017 was held in the School Auditorium on 12th December and Rev. Fr. Priyantha Silva , Director , Arch Diocesan Centre for Sacred Arts and Architecture the Chief Celebrant delivered the Christmas Message and granted the Blessing. It was a commendable performance by the School Choirs Primary and Upper School The Choir of the Brother School Maris Stella College joined adding colour and peace commencing the Christmas Spirit respecting the New Born Babe in Bethlehem. Members of the different organizations of the Ave Marian Family joined the Carol Service depicting unity among each other.
Skills of Athletes bring honour to Ave Maria Convent, Negombo!!! Sir John Tarbet Junior Championship Athletic Meet organized by School Athletic Association of Sri Lanka was held at Homagama, Mahinda Rajapaksha Grounds, on 8th – 10th November. Menuki Ranasinghe obtained 2nd place in Long Jump under 12, 3rd place in 100 m and 2nd place in 80m. Sewmini Nathaliya obtained 1st place in Shot Putt under 14. 4 x 100m team obtained 2nd place. The participants are Menuki Ranasinghe, Piumi Wimalasuriya, Shenali Ariyawansa and Desadi Yehansa. Finally the athletes bagged the overall under 12 Girls Championship.
Athletes of Ave Maria Convent Negombo, exposed their talents at All Island School Games 2017 Meet, organized by Ministry of Education which was held at Mahinda Rajapaksha Grounds in Homagama, on 11th – 15th October. Menuki Ranasinghe obtained 2nd place in Long Jump under 12, 2nd place in 100 m and 3rd place in 80m and Sewmini Nathaiya obtained 1st place in Shot Putt in Under 14. Finally the athletes bagged the Overall Junior Girls Championship.
Shenali Weerawansa who has been achieving in the swimming arena continuously achieved in the following manner at the National Short Course Swimming Championship 2017 although she is only 15 years old. The Prize Giving 2016 of Ave Maria Convent, Negombo was held on the 15th September 2017 at the convent, Auditorium. The students who ranked top in their studies including the students who obtained the Highest Aggregate and 46 University Entrants were appreciated and awarded for their achievements. The Chief Guest Dr. Mrs. Dhammika Siyambalapitiya Rowel, Consultant Community Physician who was an eminent past pupil of the school admired the progressing activities in the school which the principal Rev. Sr. Shermila Jayawardhana mentioned in her report. The presence of the Presidents and the members of the Welfare Society, The Past Teachers’ Association, Special Invitees and the Parents encouraged the students and the ‘Prize Giving 2016’ was a great success.
Ave Maria Convent, Negombo participated in the Inter School Shakespeare Drama Competition organized by YMCA and the Rotary Club of Colombo North this year. They performed a scene from Hamlet ; Andrea Fernando who characterized Hamlet and Andrea Oshadi who characterized Ophelia got nominated for the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress respectively. They practiced for two and a half months with the young 22 year old Director Mr. Roshane Jayampathy. Mr. Jayampathy put in a lot of effort with the teachers who took day and night off from their daily routine to get the best out of the students. The students were hard working and their motivation, dedication and the encouragement from the parents made them get into finals. Their tireless efforts were finally paid off with the Championship they were awarded on the 29th September 2017 at the Bishop’s College Auditorium. The cast members were ; Andrea Fernando –Hamlet, Andrea Oshadi- Ophelia, Muthuni Dissanayake-Gurtrude, Shevodi Perera-Claudius, Chrishelle De Silva-Pollonius, Natali Eranya-Learties, Mystica Jayakody-King Hamlet & Horatio, Richelle Fernando- Ghost, Melissa Perera-Maid and Ghost, Sheranya Dassanayake- Ghost & Soldier, Avindya Jayawardena- Soldier,Suraya Opatha –Ghost, Sanjana Kuruwita-Ghost and Isari Kuruwita-Ghost.

Sports Meet of Ave Maria Convent- Negombo, was held on the 27th of January 2017, Major D.C.N. Bombuwala ( Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps, Adjt RHQ) gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. It is remarkable the Chief Guest who actively participated in sports during her school days being a past pupil of the school. Under the guidance of the new principal Rev. Sr. Shermila Jayawardena the day became a success with Coudert House obtaining the Championship scoring 541 points.
The Primary School Sports Meet was held on the 17th of February 2017 and Dr. Mrs. J. A. Erandi, Senior House Officer, Medicine, D.G.H., Negombo graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Laying the foundation for the athletes the events were completed and the Andrew House bagged the Championship obtaining 230 points. The Principal Rev. Sr. Shermila Jayawardena welcomed the distinguished guests and the event was completed successfully giving a smile to everybody attended.
Rev. Sr. Therese Kanthi the New Community Leader was welcomed to Ave Maria Convent, Negombo on the 13th of March 2017. The Head Prefects of the Collegiate and the Primary presented her a bouquet of flowers depicting their love towards her. She being in the school nine years ago makes it momentous as she is aware of the surroundings.
Arch Bishop of Hobart Arch Diocese Rt. Rev. Julia Porteous visited Ave Maria Convent, Negombo on 20th January 2017. He had a keen interest of being knowledgeable of the school curriculum in Sri Lanka and addressed the A/L students. He enhanced the knowledge of the students and uplifted their spirituality. Finally he granted his blessings in which the students accepted solemnly and devotedly. There after he had a vicinity of the school and left initializing a friendship with the school.
Prefects were inducted for the year 2017 at Ave Maria Convent, Negombo on 5th January where 90 prefects from the Collegiate and 42 prefects from the Primary School took oaths committing them to be loyal and serve the school The day commenced with Holy Mass invoking blessings from Lord our God where Rev.Fr Cizwan De Croos Co-ordinator to the Negombo Regional Bishop, Rector Dheva Dharmaya Degree Nikethananya,Negombo branch, Director Thomas Cardinal Cooray Cathecatical Center, Thammita, Negombo was the celebrant. He blessed the badges that were pinned on the newly appointed leaders. It was the first official function of the new principal Rev.Sr. Shirmila Jayawardena, and the Collegiate Head Prefect Miss Shankini Pathirana was pinned by her. English Day 2016 was held on the 15th September in the School Hall and Rev Fr. M. Quintus Fernando, the Director of Benedict XVI Cultural Institute at Bolawalana Negombo, graced the function as the Chief Guest. He in his speech appreciated the performances and stated the standard of the school he has experienced when students go to BCI for interviews. Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU) will be conducting the South Asian Aquatic Championship 2016 (SAAC 2016) in Colombo from 18th to 23rd of October 2016. With the conclusion of the selection trials, a student of Ave Maria Convent, Negombo Shenali Weerawansa has been selected to represent Sri Lanka at the SAAC Games 2016.
Cultural Day 2016 Primary was held on the 30th September in the school auditorium 30th September in the school auditorium with the Chief Guest Dr. Mrs Manel Fernando, Consultant Pediatrician, Teaching hospital Ragama. She in her speech insisted the value of extra activities in gaining confidence. She also stated the consequence of balancing studies and extracurricular activities in forming a balanced personality in future. The primary students performed depicting the main communities in Sri Lanka with enthusiasm and the audience admired and appreciated the efforts of the students.
Talented athletes of Ave Maria were instrumental in getting the Championship to the school this year scoring 161 points. Individual champion ships of under 15, under 17 and under 21 were obtained by Sanili Jesvina, Veronika Sathsarani and Raveesha Jeewanthi respectively.
The flag of Ave Maria Convent, Negombo keeps fluttering high up in the air as they bagged the overall championship in Netball in the Negombo zone. The skilled and well trained players had a tremendous effort to obtain the championship in the age groups under 15, 17 and 19.
Jaane Gayana De Siva and Michelle Andrea Wijepura from Ave Maria Convent Negombo are selected to the Sri Lankan Netball National Pool this year. They were selected 14th May 2016 and they will represent Sri Lanka in the upcoming tournament overseas.
Roshell Nathasha Askey of Ave Maria Convent, Negombo became the All Island Champion in the under 15 category from 150 players. The tournament was organized by the Sri - Lanka school Chess Association and she will be representing Sri Lanka in Iran in the near future. She bagged the championship for the 4th time that is in 2009, 2011, 2012 and finally in 2016. Congratulations Nathasha, Ave Maria family wishes you Good Luck!!!
Sinhala and Tamil New year celebrations were held at school with the participation of Grade 1 and 2 students. It inculcated the traditions of our nation and the students enjoyed the games and witnessed the rituals of the ceremony. Rev. Sr. Shirani Algama anointed the students with oil and the compere explained the idea behind each ritual.
Rev. Sr. M. Euphrasia’s feast which falls on the 24th of April was celebrated on the 25th of April by the school as it became a holiday. A meaningful prayer service was organized by the Rose Virginie club and Ave Maria family wished Rev. Sr. Shirani Algama a very happy feast. Her feast falls on the same day.
New members were appointed for the Media Unit of Ave Maria Convent, Negombo on the 25th of April 2016.
Being the year of Mercy an art competition was held to the theme "Be Merciful like the Father". The winners were appreciated and awarded on the school Feast the 25th of March.
In celebration of the School Feast Holy Mass was offered by Rev. Fr. Denninton Subabsinghe on the 25th of March 2016. It Adele red glamor when Net ball matches were played among the teachers over 40 and under 40. The principal becoming a team member was exemplary and enhanced the celebrities of the day. In expressing the joy a cake was cut by the principal Rev. Sr. Shirani Algama in the presence of the vice principal Rev. Sr. Sudarika Fernando, the deputy principal Ms. Nilanthi Perera and the school captain Ms. Dineesha Chandrasiri.
Grand Opening of Tennis Court - Ave Maria Convent, Negombo Renovated distinct Tennis court of Ave Maria Convent – Negombo was declared open by Mr. Bopitiya, the Chairman Lanka Mineral and Chemical (pvt) Ltd on the 8th April 2016 in the presence of the principal Rev Sr. Shirani Algama and the dignitaries from thee school coaches, parents, tennis players and others. Rev. fr. Ravin Sandasiri Perera graced the occasion and blessed the court before the opening. Anjalika Kurera, Nimna Fernando, Dileka Daniel and Ashanthi seneviratne the super stars in the field of tennis from Ave Maria Convent had an exhibition game at the opening. Ave Maria family wishes the tennis players good luck in the future endeavors.
L.Melani Fernando and Shenali Weerawansa from Ave Maria Convent, Negombo are selected for the 5th Asian School's Swimming Championship 2016, to represent Sri - Lanka. They will be participating in the event which will be held in Indonesia from the 24th - 31st May 2016. Ave Maria family wishes them success through God's Blessings.
Newly appointed committee members of the Welfare Board of Ave Maria Convent Negombo together with the president Mr. Delakshan Heetiarachchi, Secretary Mr. Tennyson Fernando and the Treasurer Mr. Rohan Perera. They were appointed at the A.G.M which was held on the 13th March 2016.
Divisional Sports Meet of Negombo was held at Maris Stella grounds. Ave Maria Convent, Negombo bagged the Championship and they were awarded the Championship by the Divisional Director of Education Mr. Andrew Michael. We thank the teachers in charge and coach for their effort.
Anjelica Kurera of Ave Maria Convent, Negombo played tennis at World Junior Tennis Competition 2016 and got qualified for the World Junior Final round which will be held either in Thailand or in Australia soon. Although she is twelve years old she was competent enough to be in the under 14 age group and we praise the Lord for her talents and all what was granted to her. Ave Maria family wishes her good luck in all her future endeavours.
Rev. Sr. Muditha Fernando a past pupil of Ave Maria Convent, Negombo promises to serve Lord God in His Vineyard. Rev. Sr. Muditha Fernando entered the religious life in the Good Shepherd order to serve in God's Vineyard on the 5th March 2016. While thanking God almighty we seek and pray that Lord grant his blessings to fulfill her duties as a Good Shepherd sister, serving people of all walks of life. With humble pride we mention that Sr. Muditha Fernando had her initial education from grade one to twelve at Ave Maria Convent, Negombo. May God bless you and may you take the life example of Mary our Mother the patroness of our school and St. Mary Euphrasia the foundress of the Good Shepherd Congregation.
Making people aware of strokes "The Stroke Walk 2016" was organized by the National Stroke Association, Sri Lanka, together with Gateway College, Negombo and Ave Maria Convent, Negombo. The walk started at Kadolkale grounds and it was flagged off by the Chief Guest Dr. Palitha Maheeplala Director General, Health Services. It came to a halt at Ave Maria Convent Negombo and a presentation was done by the President of the Stroke Association Dr. Udaya Ranawake Consultant Neurologist. It was followed by a clinic free of charge to the public at Ave Maria Convent. Stroke Walk became a great success as the principals of Ave Maria Convent, Negombo Rev. Sr. Shirani Algama and Gateway College Mrs. Devika Alwis made no stone unturned when organizing this event together with Dr. Palitha Ranawake.
Inter House Athletic Meet of the collegiate was held on the 22nd of January in the School Grounds. The Chief Guest Ms. Hyacinth Gunawadena Director and General Manager of Jetwing Blue, Jetwing Beach & Jetwing Aurveda Hotels who is a dedicated past pupil in her speech mentioned the value of sports and the value of Education in a convent. All the athletes did their best and the others were enthusiastic in cheering. Coudert House bagged the championship obtaining 873 points. It is a major event in the school and this year it was organized by the principal Rev. Sr. Shirani Algama, the PTI Mrs. Kusum Feranndo and all the other members of the staff.
Grade 1 Students were welcomed to the school on 12th January 2016, giving the new students an atmosphere to commence gaining expected knowledge at school. Rev. Sr. Shirani Algama , the Principal welcomed the students and parents together with Rev. Sr. Sudarika Fernando, the Vice Principal , the two Deputy Principals and the Teachers. Grade 2 students waved flags and greeted them as they entered and accompanied them to the classes handing over a flower to each of them. The programme commenced with a hymn to the Holy spirit and a prayer. The head prefect of the Primary Section, Ms. Devindi Ponweera in her address mentioned her experience of gaining spirituality and knowledge in many spheres. The principal requested the parents to corporate by supporting according to the rules and regulations of the school. The A/L mathematics instructor Mr. Bhanu Waidyasekara addressed the gathering and inspired the parents to motivate their offsprings for studies while maintaining discipline.
The band show of Ave Maria Convent "7th Rhapsody with Ave Marians" was held on 09th January 2016 at the Ave Maria Auditorium with Mr Mahesh Fernando as the Chief Guest and Mr Mahesh Denipitiya as the Special Guest Of Honor. It was a very colourful and a splendid extravaganza awaited by the senior western band of Ave Maria Convent and all the music lovers of the area. These are some highlights of the event.......
Prefects induction was held on the 5th January 2016 in the School Auditorium. The programme commenced with Holy Mass and Rev. Fr. Darrel Coonghe, the founder and director of the Supuwath Arana celebrated it with an inspirational sermon which revealed the qualities of a good leader. Miss Dineesha Chandrasekara was appointed as the school captain of the collegiate and Miss. Devindi Christina Ponweera as the Primary school captain. Eighty one students enrolled as prefects from the upper school and forty two from the Primary section. The badges were pinned on them by the Chief Guest Rev. Fr. Darrel Coonghe Rev. Sr. Shirani Algama the principal and others.

Once a dream.... today a reality for Ave Marians.....!! We praise and thank our God Almighty and Mary our Mother for the guidance and blessings showered upon us to purchase a brand new bus for our alma mater... A long awaited goal is now achieved after much effort and labour of love of many well wishers of Ave Maria Family.... We also remember the burden shouldered and pains taken by the Past Pupil's Association and different batches of loyal past pupils, in raising funds for this great task...! Thank you all for your love...!! With God's guidance and your support, we succeeded in paying the full cost of Rs. 70 Lakhs for the bus (including the funds collected and funds from school) and we welcome contributions from the well wishers to earn the balance amount of Rs. 20 Lakhs...!! Let's all humbly rejoice in God at this great moment, for He has showered his blessings upon us abundantly...!!

During the past weekend the athletes of Ave Maria Convent - Negombo, excelled at all events conducted at Sussex Ground Negombo and made the flag of Ave Maria fly high. They brought home the awards for U-15 Girls Championship U-17 Girls Championship U-19 Girls Championship Open Girls Championship Overall Championship Also Ms. Matheesha Fernandopulle who became the U-17 Champion was acknowledged as the Best Athlete
To the drought affected people in Kawanthissapura it was as if a miracle had happened on Saturday 6th September 2014, when a convoy of 2 large lorries and a bus load of pure drinking water and dry rations arrived from Ave Maria Convent - Negombo.
